Nature Boy

Introducing my children to nature is a top priority. It's so important to me, I even wrote an article about it last year and it was published on Ottawa Mommy Club. My sister, Caleigh and I decided to develop a new Fall Nature Program at Petrie Island for kids ages 2-5. We are both so passionate about the outdoors and we want to help children recognize the beauty of Mother Nature.

There was so much interest in our program and it filled up fast! Sadly, we had to turn quite a few families away, but we do hope to run a similar program in the spring. Our class is geared towards getting kids in the great outdoors and helping to kindle an early interest in nature. Stay tuned for more updates!

More nature discoveries:

  • Hiking the Mer Bleue Trails. Pine needles littered the forest floor and Henry enjoyed running under the canopy of trees.
  • The Museum of Nature. We borrowed a pass from the Ottawa Public Library and spent a rainy afternoon exploring the Creatures of Light exhibit. It was amazing to see live flashlight fish! I wanted to take a picture, but no photography was permitted because it can actually kill them. Later, we explored the dinosaur display and Henry loved it because he is currently obsessed with the brontosaurus and triceratops. In fact, at my anatomy scan a couple of weeks ago, the ultrasound technician was getting a picture of the baby's spine and Henry pointed to the screen and yelled "dino!" with such delight. I think he might be a little disappointed when I come home with a baby instead of a t-rex.

This nature-loving mama loves dazzling her baby boy with outdoor adventures. I notice his wonder and appreciation for nature has already started and like his mama, Henry feels most happy and alive in the great outdoors.

  1. He's such a cutie and definitely in his element when he's running through the woods, picking up sticks and rocks to throw!
