"Diving" into Down Dog

When I was pregnant with Henry, my family bought a paddle board for the cottage. I attempted to get on the board that summer, but my huge belly got in the way. This summer, however, you can't get me off of it! Paddle boarding has been a great postnatal workout for me because I must rely on my core strength to avoid falling into the lake. The board also acts as my yoga mat and I always end my workout with a series of stretches on the water.

Paddle boarding started in Hawaii in the 1960s and has since taken off on lakes and rivers across North America.
Unlike a canoe, you stand tall on a paddleboard. It allows you to appreciate the beauty of the lake from a different view. My favourite time to go paddle boarding is early in the morning. I begin my all over workout with slow strokes and once my body is warmed up, I push myself to get my heart pumping.

Paddle boarding is believed to be one of the most effective ways to burn fat, but it's also a great stress fighter. My body falls into a steady rhythm and my mind eases into a gentle meditation. By the time I reach the middle of the lake, beads of sweat drip from my brow. After a refreshing dip in the cool water, I get back on my board and begin my yoga practice. Finally, I lay in savasana and breathe in the fresh air.

Enroll in a class or rent a paddleboard this summer! It's a full body workout that doesn't feel like one because it's so fun. All you need is a good board, lightweight paddle, sunscreen and a bathing suit.

  1. Looks like a ton of fun, it takes balance though doesn't it? Cause I'm pretty sure I'd be in the water more than on the paddleboard :P

  2. Very jealous of your paddle board and sweet lake set-up. It's always nice to work out outside.

  3. Oh my goodness, I have to say, I am pretty excited to see that you have a blog- if not for anything else, just so that I can see pictures of your cute Henry- he is so sweet!
