Hiking in Heels

Adrenaline coursed through my veins as soon as my microphone was turned on. It was such a rush to be back in the 101.9 DAWG FM studio this week to co-host with Ottawa's favourite radio personality, Dylan Black. I had fun catching up with Dylan and filling our listeners in on what I've been up to since taking maternity leave. Henry totally understood proper radio etiquette. He was quiet when we were on the air and he waited for a commercial break to indiscreetly soil his diaper...That's my boy! He smiled for all my co-workers and brought them a donation for DAWG FM's 2013 CHEO fund. The telethon for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario is happening June 8th-9th. Donations to the CHEO Foundation can be made here.

We decided to take a spontaneous mid-week trip up to the cottage because the forecast was calling for sunshine. I quickly stuffed some baby essentials in to a suitcase and away we went. On the drive up to our tiny cabin in the woods, we saw signs for the Perth Wildlife Reserve. We decided to take a detour and check out the conservation area.

Henry was safely snuggled in his carrier as we hiked along the trail. The reserve is beautiful, but let me tell you, if I had known we were going for an hour and a half hike, I wouldn't have worn a summer dress and platform flip flops.

The rest of our mid-week cottage trip:
  •  Canoe trips across the lake in search of loons. Their voices are one of my favourite sounds and I love hearing their calls echo across the water. We found them nesting on an island close to our cottage.

  • The clouds rolled in and they brought rain. We spent the rest of our stay playing Scrabble and reading books. It was quiet and peaceful.

  •  We co-slept to keep warm. I loved waking up to this sweet face every morning.

"Great blog as usual Alyssa! And Henry looks absolutely handsome in his newsboy hat, so freaking adorable!! I didn't even know about the farmers market other than downtown! Totally need to check that out! And I hear ya about car's lack of AC, ours needs a new belt and I can't stand humid heat!! Wish I could have a little garden but I am no green thumb, I'd likely have it all dead in no time haha. Will be listening in on Tuesday!"
