Henry Goes to the Cottage

When I was pregnant, I dreamed of taking my baby up to our family cottage. It's my favourite place in the whole world. If I had to choose between a trip to Europe or a summer up at the cottage, I would always choose Pike Lake. In the winter, the dirt road that leads to our cabin is covered with snow and ice, so we drive as far as we can and hike the rest of the way in. Henry was cozy in his carrier while everyone else hauled the cooler, firewood and lawn chairs up and down the winding road.

When we arrived the men set up camp, while the ladies headed down to the dock to walk along the frozen lake. It was so quiet and beautiful.

When we returned we all devoured hot dogs, chips, apples, organic juice and homemade chocolate chip cookies for lunch. Henry was passed around for snuggles as we played campfire games and made tree art.

A bunny ran into a tree.

My favourite part of the day was when I sat with Henry in the sunshine and nursed him by the fire. A day up at the cottage rejuvenates my soul and makes me feel so good. Henry was so calm and content in the outdoors. It was everything I dreamed it would be.
